About EstateFig
EstateFig is an independent, free resource for estimating U.S. estate and inheritance tax across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. We built it because the best calculators on the web rarely show state-level detail, and most hide how their numbers are derived.
What we do
We publish transparent calculators and plain-English guides that trace every figure back to federal statute (IRC § 2010, OBBBA 2025) or a state Department of Revenue. Our tools cover the federal estate tax, every state estate and inheritance tax, portability (DSUE), the New York estate tax cliff, step-up in basis, and lifetime gifting.
Each calculator lists its sources and methodology on the same page. Where a state's full bracket table is not yet loaded, results are clearly flagged as model estimates rather than presented as exact.
Why accuracy matters to us
Estate and inheritance tax is a “Your Money or Your Life” (YMYL) topic. A wrong number can change a family's plan by hundreds of thousands of dollars. That is why every figure on EstateFig is tied to a cited source and a source year, and the build process refuses to ship a number without a citation.
Editorial team
EstateFig content is produced and reviewed by an editorial team focused on U.S. estate, gift, and inheritance taxation. Every calculator and guide is checked against federal statute (IRC § 2010, OBBBA 2025) and each state's Department of Revenue before publication, and carries a “Last updated” date.
On credentials: EstateFig does not publish an individual professional license as fact unless a named, licensed EA, CPA, or estate attorney has reviewed the page. When we engage a credentialed reviewer for formal sign-off, their real name and license are shown alongside the content.
How we are funded
EstateFig is free to use. The site is supported by advertising and, in places, affiliate links to planning software and professional services. Our calculators themselves are never paywalled, and affiliate relationships do not affect the numbers or the rankings. See our legal, privacy & advertising disclosures.
